Earlier Report Observations

The German market for bran, sharps and residues from cereal and legume processing contracted significantly from 2018 to 2023, with volume falling from 1 698 thousand tons to 1 347 thousand tons, a reduction of 21%. The decline was marked by volatility, including a sharp drop in 2019 followed by a partial recovery in 2020-2021 and further decreases in the subsequent two years.

Domestic production declined over the period from 1 796 thousand tons to 1 651 thousand tons, while exports increased from 768 thousand tons to 995 thousand tons by 2023. Imports grew until 2022, reaching 768 thousand tons, before falling to 692 thousand tons in 2023. The rise in exports, coupled with lower production, reduced the volume available for the domestic market, driving the overall contraction.
