Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2020, the wheat bran and residues market in Cabo Verde expanded significantly, with volume growing from 4.7 thousand tons to a peak of 5.8 thousand tons. This 23% increase over two years was supported by rising domestic production, which reached 3.7 thousand tons in 2020, and sustained import levels.

After the peak, market volume contracted to 5.3 thousand tons in 2021 and remained nearly stable in 2022 at 5.4 thousand tons. However, in 2023 the market fell sharply to 4.0 thousand tons, a 26% drop from the previous year. This decline was primarily due to a steep reduction in imports, which fell to 627 tons, while production also decreased to 3.3 thousand tons.

Over the full period from 2018 to 2023, domestic production showed volatility, peaking at 4.0 thousand tons in 2022, but imports trended downward after 2021, leading to an overall smaller market by 2023 compared to the 2020 high.
