Between 2018 and 2023, the Czech market for wheat and meslin flour and cereals showed relative stability, with annual volumes fluctuating between 664 and 677 thousand tons. After minor declines in 2019 and 2020, the market saw a slight recovery in 2021, followed by another dip in 2022, before reaching its peak for the period at 677.4 thousand tons in 2023.

The market contraction in 2022 was shaped by rising energy costs and import competition. A sharp increase in natural gas and electricity prices significantly raised production costs for wheat flour, pressuring domestic millers. At the same time, a growing share of cheaper Ukrainian wheat flour entering the Czech market directly and via Poland intensified price competition and contributed to lower average prices for local flour. These factors coincided with a slight reduction in the total market volume to 664.4 thousand tons that year, before a rebound in 2023.
