From 2018 to 2021, the market for maize flour and cereals in Czechia remained within a narrow range of 18 868 t to 19 481 t. Domestic production held at 9 500 t until 2019, then increased to 10 000 t in 2020. During this period, climatic factors such as rainfall and temperature influenced corn yields, while the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted food sectors in 2020. In 2021, revised allergen labeling rules heightened consumer attention to gluten-free options, which may have supported maize flour demand.

Market volume expanded sharply from 2022 onward, reaching 21 446 t that year and surging to 32 706 t in 2023. This growth was propelled by two main forces: the European Union's extension of duty-free imports for Ukrainian cereals until 2024, which boosted supply, and a sustained rise in consumer preference for gluten-free and vegan products, driving demand for maize flour. Accompanying these trends were tighter quality controls on Ukrainian imports and increased cereal prices.

In 2024 and 2025, import volumes remained elevated, peaking at 27 384 t in 2024 before falling to 18 343 t in 2025, while exports grew to 4 298 t in 2025. These movements suggest ongoing recalibration of trade flows in the maize flour and cereals sector.

After two years of growth, Czechia's cross-border shipments of maize flour and cereals declined in 2021. Exports totaled 1 966 tonnes, marking a 23.1% decrease from 2020. Between 2018 and 2021, exports overall increased by 15.8%, with a compound annual growth rate of 5.0%. The peak export volume was recorded in 2020 at 2 557 tonnes, while the largest increase occurred in 2019 with a 44.3% rise.

From 2018 to 2021, Slovakia was the dominant destination for Czechia's maize flour and cereals exports in kind, accounting for 74.7% of total flows. The remaining share was distributed among several smaller markets.

Maize flour and cereals shipments from Czechia abroad increased for the third consecutive year in 2021. Exports reached 1 972 thousand US dollars, representing a 16.2% improvement compared to 2020. Between 2018 and 2021, exports grew by 100.7%, equating to an annualized rate of 26.1%.

Throughout 2018–2021, Slovakia, Poland, and Germany remained the main markets for Czechia's maize flour and cereals exports in value terms. Slovakia accounted for 50.5% of exports, Poland for 24.3%, and Germany for 9.7%, jointly representing 84.5% of total flows.
