The market for fresh watermelons in Peru expanded significantly from 80.6 thousand tons in 2018 to 142.6 thousand tons in 2023, driven entirely by domestic production as imports were absent. Production rose from 101.3 thousand tons to 160.4 thousand tons over this period, while exports fluctuated between 16.3 and 23.6 thousand tons.

The most notable growth occurred in 2023, when market volume jumped by 46.2 thousand tons. That year, road blockages in key producing regions like Ica and Piura created logistical challenges for transportation, potentially affecting export flows. However, production surged to 160.4 thousand tons, indicating that these disruptions did not curb overall output. Agricola San Joaquín E.I.R.L. emerged as the leading watermelon exporter, accounting for 30% of export volume in the first quarter.

Market volume experienced temporary declines in 2020 and 2022, corresponding to lower production levels. Export activity remained active throughout, with Chile and Ecuador as primary destinations.
