Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2021, the Western European market for vermouth and other flavoured wine showed considerable volatility. Volume grew from 81.6 million liters in 2018 to 99.4 million liters in 2019, then contracted sharply to 61.1 million liters in 2020 before rebounding to 99.1 million liters in 2021.

After the recovery, market volume stabilized at 98.0 million liters in 2022, a slight decrease, followed by a decline to 92.3 million liters in 2023. During this period, the market was supported by a positive dynamic for French vermouth, which benefited from a wave of quality 'made in France' products that made it trendy both for export and domestically. This trend, blending historical heritage with modern consumption innovations, helped maintain interest in the category.

In 2024, new European Union regulations requiring the disclosure of ingredients and nutritional values on wine labels from the 2024 harvest came into effect, necessitating adaptations in labeling and traceability systems. Additionally, extreme climate factors reduced global wine production by 5% in 2024, impacting the supply of base wine for vermouth and shaping the operating environment for producers.
