Earlier Report Observations

The South Korean vermouth and other flavoured wine market showed steady growth from 2018 to 2021, increasing from 3.1 million L to 5.1 million L. This rise was linked to the spread of home-drinking and solo-drinking culture, which boosted demand for affordable wines, as well as the active expansion of small and medium importer infrastructure, improving product availability. An additional factor was the trend towards premiumization and growing health awareness among consumers.

From 2022 onwards, the market entered a decline phase, dropping to 3.2 million L in 2023 and continuing to fall in 2024. The main reasons were macroeconomic difficulties, including reduced wine production in key producing countries, high inflation, rising exchange rates, and general economic uncertainty, leading to decreased imports and an overall drop in consumption. The situation was exacerbated by high inventories and price wars in the market.

During the downturn, new trends emerged, such as the launch of collaborative products with art directors to attract the MZ generation, as well as growing interest in natural, organic, and light wines, reflecting shifting consumer preferences towards health and sustainability.
