Earlier Report Observations

The African market for vermouth and flavoured wine saw steady growth from 14 301 thousand liters in 2018 to 16 668 thousand liters in 2020. This expansion was supported by an emerging trend among younger consumers towards lower-alcohol fortified wines like vermouth, as they shifted from spirits such as gin. Concurrently, increased interest in artisanal aromatised wines bolstered demand. In 2020, a 7.6% increase in grape crushing volume indicated enhanced wine production capacity, which likely improved supply for flavoured wine segments.

Market volume then contracted sharply to 13 828 thousand liters in 2021, before rebounding to 17 269 thousand liters in 2022 and surging to 23 067 thousand liters in 2023, indicating volatile but overall positive momentum.
