The vanilla market volume in Polynesia experienced significant fluctuations between 2018 and 2023. The state-owned entity EVT played a central role through subsidies and sector support, but production remained below historical levels. The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 disrupted international trade, reducing imports and exports, yet local production increased, contributing to market growth that year.

Following the pandemic, export values began recovering in 2021, supported by continued public policies aimed at quality and traceability. However, in 2022, the market contracted due to persistently low production and revelations of non-compliance in vanilla pods, which prompted efforts toward an IGP label to guarantee quality. By 2023, the formal pursuit of IGP certification and ongoing training for producers helped the market volume recover partially, with rising export values indicating improved market conditions.
