Earlier Report Observations

In 2018, the vanilla market in India grew, with market volume reaching 2 644 t. This expansion was driven by rising consumer interest due to increasing disposable incomes and the widespread use of vanilla extract by the foodservice industry. The pharmaceutical sector's growing demand for vanilla's antioxidant properties further contributed to this growth, alongside international recognition of the high quality of Indian vanilla beans.

The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted global supply chains in 2020, while simultaneously accelerating a consumer shift away from synthetic vanilla toward natural flavorings. These factors contributed to market stabilization around 2 002 t that year. In 2022, market volume contracted to 2 233 t, pressured by continued global supply chain issues and fluctuations in crude oil prices affecting synthetic vanillin production, despite sustained consumer demand for natural and healthy products.
