Earlier Report Observations
The feldspar market in Asia expanded from 11.8 million metric tons in 2018 to 17.8 million metric tons in 2020. This growth was driven by strong demand from the glassmaking and ceramics sectors, fueled by high construction spending in China, which reached approximately $1.9 trillion in 2018. In 2019, rising need for ceramic tiles and automotive glass in developing economies continued to push consumption upward. Although the COVID-19 pandemic caused a temporary industrial slowdown in early 2020, a rapid recovery starting in the second quarter resumed feldspar demand for construction and manufacturing.
Market volume continued to rise, reaching 22.8 million metric tons in 2022. The Asia-Pacific region consolidated its dominant position, accounting for over 47% of global volume, sustained by steady demand from the glass and ceramics industries. By 2023, investments were announced for high-purity feldspar extraction projects, and new applications emerged in solar glass and advanced electronics ceramics, indicating ongoing market evolution.
In 2023 and 2024, imports fell to 591 thousand tons while exports grew to 5.8 million tons, reflecting enhanced domestic production capacity. This shift was supported by investments in mining infrastructure and the discovery of new feldspar deposits, as well as a growing focus on sustainability and regulatory compliance for high-purity materials.
