The Honduran unroasted coffee market volume grew to 60.8 thousand tonnes in 2019, as a decline in exports driven by adverse climate conditions and low international prices made more coffee available for domestic consumption. This took place under a commercialization regulation framework in effect since 2016, designed to preserve the quality of Honduran coffee.

Market volume fell to 29.9 thousand tonnes by 2021, as persistent climate challenges and pest pressures continued to affect production, prompting the promotion of agroforestry and sustainable practices to build resilience. During this period, the growth of domestic coffee consumption began to stimulate the expansion of local roasters and cafes, though this was partially offset by export dynamics in some years.

The market recovered to 43.8 thousand tonnes by 2023, supported by strengthening internal consumption and the entry of new regional players focused on innovation. Regulatory developments, including new packaging and labeling requirements, the implementation of a protocol for certified green coffee exports to China, and the impending European Union deforestation regulation, shaped the trading environment.

Between 2017 and 2020, Germany, Belgium, and the United States remained the top buyers of unroasted, non-decaffeinated coffee from Honduras. Germany accounted for 22.9% of exports in volume, Belgium for 17.6%, and the United States for 16.9%. Together, these three countries represented 57.5% of total exports.
