The market for unroasted, not decaffeinated coffee in South-eastern Asia stood at 1 728 thousand tons in 2018 but contracted sharply to 1 093 thousand tons in 2019. This decline was primarily driven by a surge in exports, which reached 1 694 thousand tons that year, diverting production away from domestic consumption.

Market volume recovered to 1 316 thousand tons in 2020 and continued growing to 1 485 thousand tons in 2021, supported by steady production increases. In 2022, however, the market dipped to 1 390 thousand tons as exports remained high amid global price volatility and supply chain disruptions that encouraged overseas shipments.

The market rebounded strongly in 2023, reaching 1 829 thousand tons, the highest level in the period, as export volumes eased and production remained near record levels.

In 2020, the region produced 2 790 thousand tonnes, marking a modest year-on-year increase of 2.7%. Looking at the period from 2017 to 2020, production rose by 10.7%, which translates to an average annual growth rate of 3.4%.

In 2020, South-eastern Asia's exports of unroasted, non-decaffeinated coffee amounted to 1 541 thousand tonnes, down 9.0% from 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, exports fell by 14.8%, with a compound annual growth rate of -5.2%. The lowest export volume was recorded in 2018 at 1 016 thousand tonnes. The sharpest decline occurred in 2018, dropping by 43.9%, while the largest increase was in 2019, rising by 66.8%.

From 2017 to 2020, Germany, the United States, and Italy were the top buyers of unroasted, non-decaffeinated coffee from South-eastern Asia, accounting for 13.7%, 11.7%, and 9.3% of exports in volume, respectively. However, their combined share was just 34.6% of total exports, indicating a diversified market with many other countries involved.

In 2020, exports totaled 2 806 million US dollars, a 9.3% decrease compared to the previous year. Between 2017 and 2020, exports dropped by 34.6%, equating to an average annual decline of 13.2%.

During the 2017-2020 period, exports in value terms were spread across a broad range of partner countries. The United States, Germany, and Italy were the leading destinations, contributing 15.0%, 12.9%, and 8.5% of total export value, respectively.
