Between 2018 and 2023, the Comorian market for unroasted, not decaffeinated coffee experienced significant volume shifts. The period began with a gradual rise in domestic output, coinciding with the launch of a feasibility study in 2018 for a project designed to improve access to financing for entrepreneurs in the productive sector. This initiative, supported by the French Development Agency and overseen by the Central Bank of the Comoros, aimed to stimulate investment in key areas like agriculture, providing a foundation for sustained coffee production growth in subsequent years.

Total market volume peaked at 163.0 metric tons in 2020, largely due to a sharp, temporary increase in imports, which reached 22.4 metric tons that year. Imports then contracted drastically, falling to 2.6 metric tons by 2022, which was the primary driver behind the overall market decline from its 2020 high.

From 2021 through 2023, the market stabilized at a level near its 2018-2019 size. Domestic production remained relatively consistent, fluctuating between 141 and 144 metric tons annually, while import volumes stayed low. This resulted in a total market volume of 143.8 metric tons in 2023, marking a return to pre-2020 levels.
