Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2019, the turkey meat and offal market in Latin America and the Caribbean expanded slightly from 385 thousand tons to 393 thousand tons. During this period, imports remained significant in countries like Colombia due to limited domestic competitiveness and a lack of certified slaughterhouses, which kept the market supplied with frozen turkey meat.

A sharp rise occurred in 2021, with market volume jumping 21% to 431 thousand tons. This surge was driven by a spike in imports to 218 thousand tons, aligning with reports of substantial frozen turkey imports in Colombia to meet consumer demand, especially during the holiday season. Growth continued in 2022, reaching 448 thousand tons, supported by shifting consumer preferences across the region toward ready-to-eat and frozen meat products, as well as a focus on convenient and eco-friendly packaging.

In 2023, the market volume fell 20% to 360 thousand tons, as production dropped to 282 thousand tons and exports rose to 90 thousand tons.
