The tomato market in Seychelles began the period at 870.4 tons in 2018. It expanded significantly to 1 095.5 tons in 2019, driven by government efforts to attract foreign investment into the tourism sector, which boosted demand for fresh produce in hotels and restaurants.

A sharp contraction followed in 2020, with the market shrinking to 690.3 tons. The decline continued to 601.0 tons in 2021 after the National Biosecurity Agency imposed inter-island movement restrictions on tomatoes to contain the Tuta Absoluta pest, disrupting domestic supply chains. The market recovered steadily thereafter, reaching 767.5 tons in 2022 and 847.5 tons in 2023.

By 2024, tomato imports had risen to 567.6 tons, supported by the entry of specialized importers such as Blue Ocean Traders and the opening of the country's largest retail outlet, the STC hypermarket, which improved product availability and distribution channels.

Seychelles' tomato production saw a two-year increase before declining. In 2019, production reached its peak at 458.3 tons, but by 2020 it had dropped to 447.0 tons, marking a slight decrease of 2.5% from the previous year. Over the entire period from 2017 to 2020, production grew by 2.8%, which translates to an average annual growth rate of 0.9%. The most significant year-on-year increase occurred in 2018, when production rose by 3.0%.
