Between 2018 and 2023, the maize flour and cereals market in Seychelles experienced fluctuations, with market volume rising from 1 883 t in 2018 to 2 049 t in 2021, falling to 1 302 t in 2022, and recovering to 2 019 t in 2023. The increase in 2021 was supported by government incentives for farmers to boost production of local crops, including maize.

The drop in 2022 occurred alongside global grain price increases due to the war in Ukraine, which raised production costs and led to lower output. In 2018, the entry of new wholesaler Arc Distribution Seychelles enhanced the supply chain for imported food products, contributing to the availability of maize flour.

By 2024, imports of maize flour had reached 194 t, and the opening of new local markets like Anse Boileau and Grand Anse Requisite marked continued efforts to improve distribution of local food products.
