From 2018 to 2023, strawberry production in Russia grew steadily from 199 thousand tons to 264.5 thousand tons. This expansion was driven by the ongoing increase in berry cultivation areas and state support for greenhouse vegetable growing, which in 2024 saw funding rise by 44.6% compared to the previous year. A notable production surge occurred in 2023 when the harvest in the Krasnodar region more than doubled, significantly boosting domestic output.

The fresh strawberry market volume in Russia increased from 248.3 thousand tons in 2018 to 328.4 thousand tons in 2023. This growth was primarily fueled by a shift in consumer preferences towards healthy and organic eating, a trend that gained momentum after 2020 and continued to expand the consumer base for fresh berries.

Import volumes fluctuated throughout the period, influenced by geopolitical shifts and trade policies. The ban on Turkish strawberry imports, in effect since 2016, initially altered supply structures. Later, sanctions and geopolitical risks after 2022 led to a reorientation of import sources towards CIS countries such as Azerbaijan, Belarus, and Kazakhstan. In 2024, imports fell to 55.4 thousand tons, influenced by spring frosts that reduced the domestic harvest and ongoing adjustments in international trade channels.
