Poland's strawberry production declined for the second consecutive year. In 2020, production reached 157.6 thousand tonnes, marking a significant 15.0% decrease from the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, production fell by 11.4%, with an average annual decline of 4.0%. The highest production was recorded in 2018 at 205.2 thousand tonnes, which also saw the largest increase of 15.3%.

Exports strawberries from Poland

The export market showed volatility during the observed period. Exports reached their lowest point in 2018 at 5,926 tonnes, then peaked in 2020 at 14,924 tonnes, representing a 2.5-fold increase between these years. In 2020, exports surged by 132.8% compared to 2019. The largest decline occurred in 2018, falling by 24.4%.

Between 2017 and 2020, Belarus was the primary buyer of Polish strawberries, accounting for 45.1% of exports in volume. The Netherlands followed with 10.9%, and Germany with 9.9%. Together, these three countries represented 65.8% of Poland's total strawberry exports by volume.

Exports in value, K $ US

Poland's strawberry export value increased for the second consecutive year. In 2020, exports amounted to 14,920 thousand US dollars, showing a steep 31.9% rise from the previous year. Between 2017 and 2020, export value grew by 36.7%, equating to an average annual increase of 11.0%. The lowest value was recorded in 2018 at 10,490 thousand US dollars, which also saw the largest decline of 3.9%.

During 2017-2020, Belarus was the leading buyer of Polish strawberries by value, accounting for 17.6% of exports. Germany followed closely with 17.3%, and the Netherlands with 9.1%. However, their combined share reached only 44.0% of total export value, with the remaining 56.0% distributed among numerous other trading partners.

The lowest import volume was recorded in 2018 at 13,458 tonnes, while the highest was in 2019 at 17,698 tonnes. The largest decline occurred in 2018, falling by 6.1%, while the largest increase was in 2019, rising by 31.5%.

From 2017 to 2020, Spain dominated Poland's strawberry imports by volume, accounting for 60.7%. Greece followed with 16.4%, and Germany with 9.7%. Together, these three countries represented 86.9% of Poland's total strawberry imports by volume.
