Since industrial starch demand exceeded domestic production capacity, imports rose significantly, contributing to market growth.

After peaking in 2020, the market contracted to 315.2 thousand tons in 2021 and further to 242.5 thousand tons by 2023. By 2024, high food inflation, the removal of fuel subsidies, and adverse weather conditions had elevated production costs and consumer prices, likely reducing starch consumption. Security challenges and increased agricultural input costs also affected the availability of starch-rich crops.
