After a 17% drop in 2023, imports partially recovered to USD 21.7 million in 2024. Exports, though starting from a low base, expanded sevenfold from USD 0.3 million in 2018 to USD 2.2 million in 2024, reflecting increased outward shipments.

Domestic production data, available from 2022 onward, show a decline from USD 2.0 million in 2022 to USD 1.6 million in 2024. The total market size, calculated as production plus imports minus exports, peaked at USD 23.7 million in 2022, fell to USD 18.8 million in 2023, and rose to USD 21.2 million in 2024, indicating volatility in supply and demand.

In 2020, Greece produced 135 thousand tonnes of starch, representing a moderate decrease of 4.0% compared to the previous year. Cross-border shipments of starch from Greece have increased for the third consecutive year. In 2020, exports reached 864 tonnes, marking a modest improvement of 5.9% compared to the previous year. Between 2017 and 2020, exports surged by 180.7%, equating to an annualized growth rate of 41.1%.

Throughout the period from 2017 to 2020, Cyprus (35.1% of exports in kind), Czechia (19.2% of exports in kind), and Poland (14.1% of exports in kind) formed the core group of markets for Greek starch exports, together accounting for 68.5% of total flows.

After a two-year increase, Greece's starch export value declined. In 2020, Greece exported 455 thousand US dollars worth of starch, down by 7.7% compared to 2019. The maximum value was recorded in 2019 at 493 thousand US dollars, with the largest increase of 59.1% also occurring in that year.
