Starch production in Europe has grown for the third year in a row. In 2020, Europe produced 13 216 K t of starches, marking a modest increase of 1.1% compared to 2019. From 2017 to 2020, production rose by 9.6%, which translates to an average annual growth rate of 3.1%.

Following two years of growth, Europe's starch production value declined. In 2020, the output was valued at 25 397 M $ US, down 9.7% from the previous year. Exports starches from Europe

Exports in kind, K t

After two years of decline, starch exports from Europe rebounded. In 2020, exports reached 1 282 K t, representing a 12.7% increase compared to the prior year. From 2017 to 2020, exports decreased by 9.3%, averaging an annual decline of 3.2%. The lowest export volume was in 2019 at 1 137 K t, with the sharpest drop occurring in 2018 at 15.9%.

From 2017 to 2020, Europe's starch export structure in value terms was balanced rather than concentrated. The United States represented 6.9% of exports, South Korea 5.3%, and Thailand 2.3%, together accounting for 14.5% of total flows. Many other countries made up the remaining 85.5%.
