From 2018 to 2021, the soya sauce market in Russia expanded steadily, with volume rising from 55 thousand tons to 74 thousand tons. This growth was driven by increasing consumer preference for Asian cuisines and soya sauce, coupled with a surge in at-home consumption during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

The market experienced a temporary contraction in 2022 to 72 thousand tons, primarily due to a sharp decline in imports amid geopolitical and economic disruptions. However, domestic production continued to rise, supported by import substitution efforts and growing exports. By 2023, market volume rebounded strongly to 83 thousand tons, aided by stabilized supply chains and further export growth.

In 2024, the market reached 85 thousand tons, with growth slowing as the domestic market matured. Russian producers increasingly focused on export opportunities to balance the saturated home market. Production volumes declined in 2025, indicating a market adjustment.

Russia's soy sauce production grew for the third year in a row. In 2021, the country produced 54 420 tons, marking an 18.5% increase from the previous year. Between 2018 and 2021, production rose by 53%, averaging an annual growth rate of 15.2%.

Exports soya sauce from Russia

Russia's soy sauce exports expanded for the third consecutive year. In 2021, exports reached 3 612 tons, up 47.9% from the year before. From 2018 to 2021, exports surged by 203.5%, with a compound annual growth rate of 44.8%.

Between 2018 and 2021, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Ukraine were the top destinations for Russia's soy sauce exports in volume terms. Belarus accounted for 33.5% of exports, Kazakhstan for 26.6%, and Ukraine for 18.4%, together making up 78.5% of total export volumes.

Russia's soy sauce export value increased for the third year in a row. In 2021, exports totaled 3 807 thousand US dollars, a sharp rise of 41.6% compared to 2020. Over the 2018-2021 period, export value grew by 150%, with a compound annual growth rate of 35.7%.

From 2018 to 2021, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Ukraine led as the main buyers of Russian soy sauce in value terms. Belarus represented 33.1% of export value, Kazakhstan 25.3%, and Ukraine 19.2%, collectively accounting for 77.6% of total export value.
