Earlier Report Observations

The Russian ice cream market volume expanded from 433.7 thousand tons in 2018 to 507.2 thousand tons in 2021. This growth was interrupted in 2019 by a 5.3% drop in production, but resumed strongly in 2020 as shifting consumer preferences, including rising nostalgia for ice cream, boosted demand. Production reached a record high in 2021, supporting the market's expansion.

Market volume contracted to 466.5 thousand tons in 2022 due to broken international supply chains and sharp increases in the cost of key raw materials like cocoa powder and dairy fats. A cold summer further reduced seasonal consumption. A recovery followed in 2023, with volume rising to 526.6 thousand tons, driven by lower wholesale milk prices which allowed producers to increase output without raising retail prices, while domestic manufacturers expanded after the exit of foreign brands.

Growth continued in 2024 as the market volume reached 552.6 thousand tons, supported by increased production and a shift in consumer interest toward impulse purchase formats. By 2025, production stabilized at 570.2 thousand tons, indicating a plateau following several years of volatility and expansion.
