The sorghum market in El Salvador showed notable shifts between 2018 and 2023. Market volume began at 111 thousand tons in 2018, then gradually declined to 107 thousand tons by 2020. A sharp contraction followed in 2021, reducing the market to 93.9 thousand tons.

A strong rebound occurred in 2022, with market volume climbing back to 107.6 thousand tons. This recovery was primarily driven by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock's launch of a program to deliver improved forage sorghum seeds to livestock farmers, which provided hybrid varieties and technical support to boost yields. Concurrently, facilitated access to agricultural credit from state-owned banks enabled producers to expand planting and invest in production.

The market moderated slightly in 2023, settling at 101.7 thousand tons, which reflected a consolidation after the previous year's expansion.
