Sorghum production in Western Asia grew for the second year in a row. In 2020, the region produced 478.4 thousand tons, marking a significant 14.7% increase from 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, production rose by 30.3%, with an average annual growth rate of 9.2%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2018 at 360.1 thousand tons. That year also saw the largest decline of 1.9%, while 2019 experienced the biggest increase of 15.8%.

Imports reached their lowest point in 2018 at 20,473 tons and peaked in 2019 at 64,719 tons, representing a 3.2-fold difference. In 2020, Western Asia imported 20,473 tons of sorghum, which was 5.6% lower than the previous year. During 2017-2020, Ukraine, Brazil, and the United Kingdom were important suppliers of sorghum to Western Asia in value terms. Ukraine accounted for 20.0% of import value, Brazil for 15.5%, and the United Kingdom for 10.9%.
