The sorghum market volume in Angola fell from 39 851 metric tons in 2018 to 32 252 metric tons in 2019, partly due to insufficient livestock production which constrained demand for sorghum as animal feed. It recovered to 35 074 metric tons in 2020, as the COVID-19 pandemic had minimal impact on agricultural operations, allowing production to continue.

Market volume slightly declined to 34 473 metric tons in 2021, a period marked by challenges such as low seed quality limiting yields. The launch of the National Grain Production Promotion Plan (PLANAGRÃO) in 2022 stimulated growth, driving the market volume to 36 086 metric tons. This increase was supported by sorghum's use as a cost-effective alternative to corn in animal feed. By 2023, the market stabilized at 36 227 metric tons, influenced by the entry of new players in the seed sector and the expansion of the meat industry, which boosted demand for sorghum in feed formulations.

Throughout the period, government policies focusing on agricultural development and import substitution provided underlying support for sorghum production, although persistent infrastructure and mechanization constraints moderated the pace of growth.
