The millet market volume in Angola showed volatility from 2018 to 2020. In 2018, inflationary pressures on retail grain prices likely tempered consumption, contributing to a slight decrease to 51 901 t. The following year, limited access to credit, land, and technical assistance for small family producers continued to constrain supply expansion. The introduction of the national PLANAGRÃO regulatory framework in 2020, however, established incentives for increased grain production, supporting a market volume rise to 55 068 t.

A sharp contraction to 35 001 t occurred in 2021 amid the continued rollout of PLANAGRÃO, which focused on expanding cultivated area and providing technical support. In 2022, the inclusion of grains in the government's strategic food reserve procurement system, coupled with reported abundant harvests in regions like Huíla that stabilized prices, contributed to a modest market recovery to 35 477 t.

The market volume fell to 30 059 t in 2023. During this period, research efforts intensified to develop new hybrid grain varieties aimed at boosting productivity, while alignment with the African Development Bank and the Dakar 'Feed Africa' summit underscored external financing initiatives for the agricultural sector.

After a two-year decline, Angola's millet production increased in 2020. The country produced 55 000 tonnes of millet that year, marking a 6.0% rise compared to 2019. Production had reached its lowest point in 2019 at 51 906 tonnes, following the largest annual decline of 3.1% in 2018.
