Between 2018 and 2023, the market volume for sheep and goat meat in Oman grew from 108.9 thousand tons to 112.8 thousand tons. This expansion was supported by infrastructure development and market broadening, which facilitated increased meat trade. Domestic production rose steadily from 93.7 thousand tons to 103.2 thousand tons over the period, gradually reducing reliance on imports, which fell from 15.5 thousand tons to 9.8 thousand tons.

By 2024, imports of live sheep and goats surged to 16.6 thousand tons, reflecting efforts to meet rising domestic demand. Local producer Taiba Farms entered the market with high-quality chilled and frozen meat products, adding diversity to the supply. Meanwhile, increased feed prices for sheep and calves influenced sacrificial animal prices within the local market.

After a two-year decline, Oman's sheep and goat meat production rebounded in 2020. The country produced 96 163 tonnes of sheep and goat meat that year, representing a 2.7% increase compared to 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, production grew by 2.1%, with a compound annual growth rate of 0.7%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2019 at 93 616 tonnes, while the most significant drop occurred in 2018 with a 0.5% decrease.

In 2020, Oman's sheep and goat meat exports reached 220 tonnes, marking a 20.4% increase from the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 timeframe, exports surged by 38.8%, translating to an 11.6% compound annual growth rate. The peak export volume was recorded in 2018 at 261 tonnes. The most substantial decline occurred in 2019 with a 30.2% drop, while the largest increase was observed in 2018 with a 65.1% rise.

From 2017 to 2020, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain were the primary destinations for Oman's sheep and goat meat exports. Qatar accounted for 60.1% of exports in kind, followed by the United Arab Emirates at 17.8%, and Bahrain at 15.2%. Together, these three markets represented 93.1% of Oman's total sheep and goat meat exports during this period.

The highest export value was recorded in 2018, while the lowest occurred in 2017, creating a 2.3-fold difference between these extremes. The maximum value reached 946 thousand US dollars in 2018, which also saw the most significant increase at 130.4%.

The United Arab Emirates contributed 40.4% of imports in kind, Australia accounted for 20.4%, and Singapore represented 6.2%. Together, these three countries supplied 67.1% of Oman's total sheep and goat meat imports during this timeframe.
