Simultaneously, a one-year ban on imports of salted, dried and smoked meat from the US, EU, Canada, Australia and Norway tightened supply, and a significant increase in exports further reduced domestic availability. The market then contracted sharply to 5 509 t in 2023 as major beef processors, such as Bryanskaya Myasnaya Kompaniya, reported heavy financial losses, prompting a drastic reduction in production.
