Earlier Report Observations

In 2018, the market for salted, brined, dried or smoked pork in Czechia was supported by stable domestic pork production. By 2019, the market value saw a slight contraction to 105 million USD. The following year, the COVID-19 pandemic and the African swine fever outbreak in China disrupted global pork supply chains, which spurred local output and helped expand the market to 111 million USD.

The persistent effects of African swine fever in China maintained elevated global pork prices in the following years. A rising share of Czech and EU pork exports to China reduced domestic availability, supporting further price increases. By 2024, exports of these products had more than doubled since 2020, reaching 7 million USD, while imports stabilized around 34 million USD. An increase in domestic pork production in early 2024 pointed to a positive supply trend, but sustained pressure from Chinese demand continued to shape the market.
