Earlier Report Observations

The Czech chicken meat market grew steadily from 229 thousand tonnes in 2018 to 245 thousand tonnes in 2020, supported by rising consumer preference for fresh chilled meat over frozen and its perceived dietary benefits at a low price point. The COVID-19 pandemic further accelerated demand in 2020 as households stockpiled frozen and fresh poultry amid supply chain disruptions.

Market volume contracted to 235 thousand tonnes in 2021, primarily due to a sharp drop in imports following the implementation of stricter veterinary requirements for fresh meat storage and transportation. Although imports from Poland rebounded in 2022, the overall market size remained around 231 thousand tonnes as increased exports offset the import recovery.

A renewed expansion to 241 thousand tonnes occurred in 2023, facilitated by new EU implementing regulations governing poultry imports and the use of feed additives. Further regulatory changes in 2024 introduced mandatory country-of-origin labeling and saw rising imports from Ukraine and Brazil, reshaping supply sources.
