Earlier Report Observations

Rye production in China increased from 504.7 thousand tons in 2018 to 518.7 thousand tons in 2023, with a peak of 525.7 thousand tons in 2019. The initial growth was driven by gradually expanding market demand and continuous improvements in planting technology, which enhanced yield and quality. After 2019, production levels stabilized with minor fluctuations, supported by a series of policy and innovation measures that maintained overall market volume.

Policy support became a significant factor from 2020 onward. The national grain-to-feed policy included forage rye in subsidy programs, encouraging its cultivation. Simultaneously, the Northeast Black Soil Conservation Tillage Action Plan promoted green planting practices for rye and other crops. In the following years, the focus shifted to variety improvement and industry chain optimization, backed by policies supporting agricultural technology innovation and bio-breeding, which helped sustain production capacity.

From 2022, rising consumer interest in health and functional foods increased attention on rye, leading to enriched product lines such as baked goods and beverages. This demand trend was further bolstered in 2023 by specific industry developments, including Yuanlu Company's collaboration with Jiangnan University to launch innovative products like rye whole wheat bread premix and noodles, alongside the introduction of advanced flour blending systems that improved production efficiency and market competitiveness.
