From 2018 to 2020, the coniferous roundwood market volume in Madagascar remained stable at around 100 thousand m³, despite the introduction of strict logging and export restrictions. The mandatory CITES permit for precious wood exports and circular notes banning illegal logging limited forest access and constrained production growth.

In 2021, market volume dropped to 98.8 thousand m³, coinciding with a sharp price increase for roundwood due to logging restrictions and inflation. Enhanced market controls in Toamasina also affected trade practices, reducing wood availability on the domestic market. A partial recovery to 99.1 thousand m³ in 2022 occurred amid continued anti-deforestation measures, including the creation of over 1 000 km of anti-fire buffer zones that limited supply.

By 2023, market volume rose to 101.1 thousand m³. This growth was linked to the ongoing CITES regulation, which restricted precious wood exports and increased domestic roundwood supply. Simultaneously, the national reforestation campaign aimed at planting 60 million trees reduced pressure on forest exploitation.
