Madagascar's production of not thrown raw silk grew from 7 000 kg in 2018 to 8 000 kg in 2020. This increase was supported by forest preservation efforts, which protect the habitat of the endemic landibe silk worm essential for wild silk production, directly boosting local output. From 2021 to 2023, production stabilized at 8 000 kg annually. The wild silk sector remained largely artisanal and unindustrialized, limiting potential for further expansion. The dominance of small and medium-sized enterprises in the textile industry, concentrated in Antananarivo, contributed to sector resilience but did not drive significant volume growth.
