Earlier Report Observations

Production of raw beet sugar in Turkey increased from 19 904 thousand tons in 2018 to 25 823 thousand tons in 2020. This growth was driven by the privatization of state-owned sugar factories, which brought new investment and commitments to expand capacity. Additionally, the reduction of the starch-based sugar (NBŞ) quota from 10% to 5% in 2018 boosted demand for beet sugar, encouraging higher output.

After a decline to 20 579 thousand tons in 2021, production recovered to 21 852 thousand tons in 2022 and reached 28 188 thousand tons in 2023. The Adapazarı Sugar Factory initiated new production campaigns and wastewater treatment upgrades, supporting operational efficiency. While a fire incident during beet unloading in 2022 caused temporary disruptions, the overall trend remained upward as privatization continued to modernize the sector.
