In 2023, the market volume rebounded sharply to 577.8 thousand tons as production rose to 591.5 thousand tons and exports fell. This shift was driven by a nearly 30% drop in global sugar prices, which made exports less attractive, and a deliberate industry focus on supplying the domestic market first to ensure local availability. The government's ongoing management of strategic sugar reserves and planning committees helped stabilize the internal supply during this transition.
