The rapeseed oilcake market in the MENA region experienced considerable volatility in physical volume from 2018 to 2023. Market volume started at 711 thousand tons in 2018, fell sharply to 522.5 thousand tons the following year, and then recovered to 677.5 thousand tons in 2020. After this peak, volume declined over the next two years to 515.7 thousand tons in 2022 before partially rebounding to 588.4 thousand tons in 2023.

In contrast, the market's value demonstrated a clear upward trend after 2019. From a low of $156.0 million that year, the market value grew each subsequent year, reaching $233.5 million in 2023. This steady increase in value occurred alongside the fluctuating physical volume, pointing to a rise in average prices or a change in the product mix within the region.

Domestic production showed a significant surge to 890.9 thousand tons in 2020, which aligned with the year's high market volume. Production levels later moderated, ending the period at 749.7 thousand tons in 2023. Throughout these years, the region consistently exported more rapeseed oilcake than it imported, solidifying its position as a net exporter.

The lowest production volume was recorded in 2018 at 648.5 K t, which also saw the largest decline of 12.7%.

Following two years of decline, MENA's rapeseed oilcake production has rebounded. In 2020, the output was valued at 266.3 M $ US, showing a sharp year-on-year gain of 33.5%. Over the 2017-2020 period, production increased by 2.5%, with a CAGR of 0.8%. The minimum value occurred in 2019 at 199.5 M $ US, while the largest drop was in 2018 at 16.2%.

Rapeseed oilcake exports from MENA have risen for the second consecutive year. In 2020, exports reached 548.4 K t, which is 42.2% higher than in 2019. From 2017 to 2020, exports grew by 54.8%, with a CAGR of 15.7%. The lowest export volume was in 2018 at 238.7 K t, which also experienced the largest decline of 32.6%. In contrast, the biggest increase was recorded in 2019 at 61.6%.

Between 2017 and 2020, Vietnam, China, and Thailand were the primary destinations for rapeseed oilcake exports from MENA. Vietnam accounted for 34.8% of exports in kind, China for 30.5%, and Thailand for 25.5%. Together, these three countries represented 90.8% of total exports in kind.

Rapeseed oilcake exports from MENA have increased for the second year in a row. In 2020, exports stood at 163.9 M $ US, reflecting a 39.9% gain compared to the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, exports rose by 32.2%, with a CAGR of 9.7%. The minimum value was recorded in 2018 at 80.2 M $ US, which saw the largest decline of 35.4%. The largest increase occurred in 2019 at 46.1%.

During the 2017-2020 period, Romania, France, and Ukraine were the key sources for rapeseed oilcake imports into MENA. Romania accounted for 38.0% of imports in kind, France for 21.6%, and Ukraine for 7.9%. Together, these three countries represented 67.5% of total import flows.
