The market for maize bran, sharps and residues in the MENA region expanded significantly from 2018 to 2021. Volume grew from 1 087 thousand tons to 1 423 thousand tons, an increase of 31% over three years, with the most pronounced growth of 12.7% occurring in 2021.

This upward trajectory reversed in the following two years. Market volume declined to 1 397 thousand tons in 2022 and then fell more substantially to 1 239 thousand tons in 2023, placing the market 13% below its 2021 peak. Despite this contraction, the 2023 volume remained 14% higher than the 2018 level.

MENA's production of maize bran, sharps, and residues has grown for the second year in a row. In 2020, the region produced 909.9 K t, marking a 5.0% increase from 2019. MENA's imports of maize bran, sharps, and residues have increased for the second consecutive year. In 2020, imports reached 352.9 K t, showing a small rise of 1.6% from 2019.
