The market for fresh or chilled pumpkins, squash and gourds in Polynesia experienced notable shifts between 2018 and 2023. Starting at 18 790 tons, the market volume fell sharply to 15 148 tons in 2019 before rebounding strongly to 19 554 tons the following year.

After a slight decrease to 18 809 tons in 2021, the market resumed its upward trajectory, reaching 19 560 tons in 2022 and peaking at 20 676 tons in 2023. This final growth was supported by consistently high domestic production above 20 000 tons and a significant reduction in export volumes over the period.

Polynesia's production of pumpkins, squash, and gourds has grown for the third year in a row. In 2020, the region produced 20 895 tons, marking a modest increase of 2.2% over the previous year. Looking at the period from 2017 to 2020, overall production rose by 3.6%, which translates to an average annual growth rate of 1.2%.

Export volumes showed significant fluctuations during this period. In 2019, exports reached their highest point at 5 310 tons, but then dropped sharply to 1 352 tons in 2020—a decline of 74.5% year-over-year. From 2017 to 2020, South Korea, Japan, and New Zealand were the dominant markets for Polynesia's pumpkin, squash, and gourd exports. South Korea led with 56.9% of the total volume, followed by Japan at 20.0% and New Zealand at 19.2%. Together, these three countries accounted for 96.1% of all exports during this timeframe.
