The market volume for sweet potatoes in Polynesia showed relative stability from 2018 to 2023, moving within a range of 7 161 to 7 338 metric tons. A slight decline from 7 338 t in 2018 to 7 229 t in 2019 was followed by years of minimal change, with volumes staying near 7 235–7 246 t through 2021.

In 2021, the local agricultural sector saw the introduction of new hybrid sweet potato varieties, selected for plant vigor and shape by the Agropol center, aimed at strengthening domestic production and valorizing local crops. These efforts contributed to sustaining production levels during a period of marginal market adjustment.

Market volume reached 7 302 t in 2023, a noticeable increase from the previous year. This growth coincided with the Direction of Agriculture’s initiative to test more than thirty sweet potato varieties and provide free selected cuttings to producers, fostering innovation and product diversification within the local supply.

Polynesia's sweet potato production has increased for the third consecutive year. In 2020, the region produced 7 474 tonnes of sweet potatoes, marking a 0.7% rise compared to 2019. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, production grew by 4.3%, with a compound annual growth rate of 1.4%.
