In 2018, the market for primary sugar crops in Kyrgyzstan stood at 773 thousand tons, supported by active efforts of the state-owned company JSC 'Kaindy-Kant' to revive the sugar beet industry. The introduction of mandatory digital labeling for certain goods, including sugar-containing products, in 2019 coincided with a slight decline to 741 thousand tons. A sharp downturn followed, with the market dropping to 449 thousand tons in 2020 and reaching a low of 366 thousand tons in 2021 due to chronically low sugar beet yields caused by soil depletion and the use of low-quality seeds.

The market began to recover in 2022, growing to 468 thousand tons after the government imposed a temporary ban on sugar exports to protect the domestic market, which stimulated local processing. Growth continued in 2023, with the volume reaching 621 thousand tons, aided by the rollout of mandatory labeling for sugar-sweetened beverages and the registration of goods in the 'Honest Sign' traceability system, which tightened control over the supply chain.
