Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2021, Angola's primary sugar crops production rose from 639 thousand tons to 1 002 thousand tons. This expansion was driven by government programs to modernize agriculture, which improved land use and access to technology. The launch of the PDAC agricultural development project in 2020, with funding from the World Bank and the French Development Agency, further increased productivity and climate resilience for key crops.

Output stabilized near 1 013 thousand tons in 2022 as authorities implemented exchange rate and price control measures to manage the agricultural market. Production then surged to 1 181 thousand tons in 2023 following the allocation of 10 000 hectares for sugarcane cultivation in Malanje province, a direct initiative to boost domestic sugar output. Continued investments under the PDAC project and the operational start of the Agricultural Research and Investigation Center (CPIA) provided additional technical support to farmers.
