The market volume for prepared sweetcorn in Eastern Africa showed significant fluctuations between 2018 and 2023. It began the period at 3 257 t, dipped slightly to 3 150 t in 2019, then recovered to 3 293 t in 2020. A substantial contraction followed in 2021, bringing the market down to 2 757 t.

This downward trend reversed sharply in 2022, with the market expanding to a peak of 3 434 t. The gain was short-lived, however, as volume dropped markedly to 2 322 t in 2023. Domestic production remained relatively stable throughout these years, ranging from 698 t to 729 t annually.

Changes in import volumes, which form the dominant share of supply, corresponded closely with the overall market movements. Imports varied from a high of 2 763 t in 2022 to a low of 1 612 t in 2023, while exports were negligible in most years.
