The market volume for prepared sweetcorn in the CIS decreased from 38 171 tons in 2018 to 34 289 tons in 2019, then held steady at 34 255 tons in 2020. During 2020, the appearance of new canned sweetcorn segments provided support, while COVID‑19-related logistics disruptions affected supply chains.

A sharp drop to 22 205 tons occurred in 2021, largely due to persistently high corn prices that raised production costs. The market rebounded to 24 479 tons in 2022 as active promotion of domestic corn seeds improved raw material availability. However, in 2023 volume contracted again to 18 158 tons following a 49% reduction in seed supplies and continued increases in production costs.

Throughout the period, regulatory measures such as import quotas on corn seeds and the development of the “On Seed Production” law encouraged a shift toward domestic seeds, altering the structure of the raw‑material base for prepared sweetcorn.

Prepared sweetcorn production in the CIS declined for the second consecutive year. In 2020, output reached 2 388 tonnes, showing minimal change compared to 2019. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, production increased by 3.2%, which translates to an annualized growth rate of 1.1%. The highest production level was recorded in 2018 at 2 504 tonnes, marking an 8.3% increase. The largest decline occurred in 2019, with a drop of 4.5%.

After two years of decline, prepared sweetcorn production in the CIS increased in value terms. In 2020, the output was valued at 7 907 thousand US dollars, up 3.1% from 2019. However, between 2017 and 2020, production value decreased by 13.7%, averaging an annual decline of 4.8%. The lowest value was recorded in 2019 at 7 669 thousand US dollars, which saw the largest decline of 15.9%.

CIS exports of prepared sweetcorn in volume terms increased for the third consecutive year. In 2020, exports amounted to 8 411 tonnes, representing a sharp gain of 26.4% compared to the previous year. From 2017 to 2020, exports surged by 106.2%, with an annualized growth rate of 27.3%.

Throughout the period from 2017 to 2020, the three largest markets for prepared sweetcorn exports in volume terms were Ukraine, Romania, and Turkmenistan. Together, they accounted for 9.6% of total export flows.

Prepared sweetcorn deliveries from the CIS in value terms increased for the third consecutive year. In 2020, exports totalled 27 853 thousand US dollars, marking a gain of 30.4% relative to the prior year. Between 2017 and 2020, exports grew by 72.3%, with an annualized rate of 19.9%.
