The market for prepared or preserved poultry meat and offal in the CIS grew from 12.8 thousand t in 2018 to a peak of 27.0 thousand t in 2021. This expansion was underpinned by a significant boom in the by-products segment, which more than doubled in 2019, alongside continuous revenue growth among the leading poultry processing companies. Subsequently, the market volume contracted to 16.8 thousand t in 2022 due to a sharp rise in export shipments.

Market conditions rebounded in 2023, with consumption recovering to 26.2 thousand t. This period was characterized by a notable increase in domestic production of live-weight poultry, which provided more raw material for processing. The year also saw a structural shift towards the domestic market as export volumes normalized from the previous high. Looking ahead, the implementation of a duty-free import quota for chicken meat from January 1, 2024, along with new state support measures for broiler production, set the stage for further import and production adjustments.

Production of prepared or preserved poultry meat or offal in the CIS has increased for the second year in a row. In 2020, the CIS produced 16 904 tonnes, marking a significant 31.5% rise compared to 2019. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, production surged by 98%, with an average annual growth rate of 25.6%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2018 at 8 406 tonnes, which saw a slight decline of 1.6%. In contrast, 2019 experienced the largest increase, with production jumping by 52.9%.

Exports of prepared or preserved poultry meat or offal from the CIS have grown for the third consecutive year. In 2020, the CIS exported 8 031 tonnes, representing a substantial 46.8% increase over the previous year. From 2017 to 2020, exports soared by 293.9%, translating to an annualized growth rate of 57.9%.

Between 2017 and 2020, Ukraine, Georgia, and Morocco were the top destinations for exports in kind, accounting for 6.7%, 1.6%, and 1.3% of total exports, respectively. Together, these three countries made up 9.6% of all export flows.

The value of prepared or preserved poultry meat or offal exports from the CIS has risen for the third year in a row. In 2020, exports reached 43 302 thousand US dollars, showing a modest 3.4% gain compared to 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, export values increased by 75.1%, with a compound annual growth rate of 20.5%.

From 2017 to 2020, Ukraine, Georgia, and Morocco were the leading destinations in value terms, contributing 4.1%, 1.9%, and 1.5% of total exports, respectively. Combined, these three countries accounted for 7.4% of all export value, making them the primary markets for CIS exports.

Imports of prepared or preserved poultry meat or offal into the CIS have increased for the third consecutive year. In 2020, imports totaled 11 374 tonnes, reflecting a 7.6% rise from the previous year. Between 2017 and 2020, imports grew by 172.2%, equivalent to an annualized rate of 39.6%.

The import structure in kind from 2017 to 2020 was highly diversified. Serbia, Poland, and Slovenia were the largest sources, accounting for 2.9%, 2.2%, and 1.8% of imports, respectively. Together, these three countries represented only 6.9% of total import flows, with the remaining 93.1% coming from a wide range of smaller markets.

After two years of growth, the value of prepared or preserved poultry meat or offal imports into the CIS declined. In 2020, imports were recorded at 46 342 thousand US dollars, an 8.1% drop from the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, import values still increased by 126.7%, with an annualized growth rate of 31.4%. The peak value was in 2019 at 50 438 thousand US dollars, which saw the largest increase of 63.1%.

The import market in value terms from 2017 to 2020 was broad, with Serbia, Slovenia, and France as the top sources, contributing 4.2%, 3.1%, and 2.3% of imports, respectively. These three countries together accounted for just 9.7% of total import flows, while the remaining 90.3% was distributed among numerous other countries.
