The poultry meat and offal market in Northern Africa expanded in volume from 6 066 thousand tons in 2018 to 7 920 thousand tons in 2023, while its value rose from 9.3 billion USD to over 13.5 billion USD. This growth was supported by rising domestic production, which increased from 5 914 thousand tons to 7 755 thousand tons over the period.

Key policy shifts influenced trade flows. In February 2020, South Africa's doubling of import tariffs on poultry from Brazil, Europe, and the United States aimed to curb imports across Africa, contributing to a drop in Northern Africa's imports to 150 thousand tons and a simultaneous surge in local production to 7 485 thousand tons. Later, in 2022, the European Union's temporary suspension of import duties and quotas on Ukrainian agricultural exports redirected frozen poultry supplies toward Europe, tightening availability for North African importers and coinciding with a market contraction to 7 477 thousand tons.

In 2024, the UAE government announced a 272 million USD investment fund for agricultural projects designed to double local poultry production, aiming to enhance food security in the Middle East and North Africa region.

Northern Africa's poultry meat and offal exports have declined for the third consecutive year. In 2020, exports totaled 4.0 K t, representing a 14.3% decrease from 2019. Between 2017 and 2020, exports fell by 40.7%, with a compound annual decline of 16.0%.

From 2017 to 2020, the main destinations for Northern Africa's poultry meat and offal exports in kind were Vietnam (26.3% of exports), Liberia (16.6%), and Guinea (8.0%). Together, these three countries accounted for 50.8% of total export flows.

Exported poultry meat and offal volumes from Northern Africa declined for the second consecutive year. In 2020, exports reached 4.6 M $ US, a dramatic 25.7% drop compared to 2019. Between 2017 and 2020, exports decreased by 27.8%, equating to an annualized rate of 10.3%. The highest value was recorded in 2018 at 7.2 M $ US, which also saw the largest increase of 12.8%.

The structure of exports in value terms from 2017 to 2020 was diversified, with Vietnam (21.9% of exports), Liberia (10.2%), and Guinea (7.5%) together accounting for 39.5% of total flows. No single country held a clearly dominant position during this period.
