The poultry meat and offal market in Mali experienced a slight decline from 89.3 thousand tons in 2018 to 86.9 thousand tons in 2020. This period followed the 2018 launch of the Livestock Development Support Project (PADEL-M), which aimed to institutional strengthening. However, recurrent avian disease outbreaks, including Newcastle disease and infectious bronchitis, alongside persistently high costs for imported feed ingredients due to ineffective state subsidies, constrained intensive farm output and limited overall market growth.

Market volume rebounded sharply to 99.9 thousand tons in 2021 and continued growing to 102.1 thousand tons by 2023. A favorable agricultural campaign in 2021 improved feed availability, supporting a surge in production. Subsequent expansion was underpinned by the continued rise of home-based poultry farming, offering new economic opportunities, and the implementation of the National Food and Nutrition Security Policy, which provided a structured framework for sector development.

In 2019, Mali produced 86 194 tonnes of poultry meat and offal, which was the lowest level during the period. Production remained nearly unchanged in 2020 at 86 206 tonnes. Over the 2017-2020 timeframe, overall production declined by 10.2%, with an average annual decrease of 3.5%. The most significant drop occurred in 2018, when production fell by 7.3%.

Mali's exports of poultry meat and offal grew for the second consecutive year in 2020, reaching 12 tonnes. This represented a modest increase of 1.3% compared to the previous year. Looking at the broader 2018-2020 period, exports surged by 157.3%, translating to an average annual growth rate of 37.0%.

From 2017 to 2020, France remained the primary export destination for Mali's poultry meat and offal, accounting for 76.3% of total export volume. Other markets played a much smaller role during this period.

The export value data shows irregular fluctuations, pointing to a volatile market environment. The lowest value was recorded in 2018, while the highest occurred in 2019, with a peak-to-trough ratio of 2.2 times. In 2020, Mali's poultry meat and offal exports were valued at 61 thousand US dollars, marking a 17.6% decrease from 2019. The peak value of 75 thousand US dollars was reached in 2019, which also saw the largest annual increase of 117.7%.

The lowest volume was 302 tonnes in 2018, while the peak of 1 105 tonnes occurred in 2019, representing a 3.7-fold difference. In 2020, imports stood at 680 tonnes, a 38.4% decrease year-over-year. The most substantial decline of 41.6% happened in 2018, whereas 2019 saw the largest increase of 265.6%.

In 2020, imports totaled 1 366 thousand US dollars, down 47.9% from the previous year. The most significant rise occurred in 2019, with a 408.6% increase.
