The poultry meat and offal market in Iraq expanded from 695 thousand tons in 2018 to 764 thousand tons by 2020. This growth was underpinned by investments in cold chain infrastructure, including the opening of a new 25-ton cold storage facility, which enhanced the distribution capacity for chilled products. The entry and subsequent expansion of major distributors like Taiba Farms increased the availability of both chilled and frozen poultry, catering to growing local and regional demand.

Market volume contracted to 621 thousand tons in 2021, pressured by rising meat prices following increased demand and the elimination of import tariffs, alongside supply shortages in other meat segments. The market rebounded strongly thereafter, reaching 913 thousand tons in 2023. This recovery was driven by a significant rise in imports of frozen meat to meet domestic consumption and lower prices resulting from increased access to imported livestock after border openings, supported by foreign investment targeting the chilled and frozen poultry trade.
