Guyana’s poultry meat and offal market volume fell by 7.6% to 77.5 kt in 2019, but this proved to be a turning point rather than the start of a prolonged contraction. Volume subsequently rose for four consecutive years, reaching 85.5 kt in 2020, 97.9 kt in 2021 and 114.3 kt in 2022. By 2022, the market was 47.5% above its 2019 low, with domestic production accounting for almost the entire supply.

The expansion continued in 2023: production increased by 9.9% to 125.1 kt and market volume reached 125.4 kt. Financing support introduced during the year reduced interest rates on poultry-sector loans from 8% to no more than 3.5% for loans of up to GYD 500 000 and 5% for larger loans, lowering the cost of funding sheds, equipment and working capital. Guyana also launched a broiler breeder programme that produced 27 000 hatching eggs in its first year, beginning to ease a key input constraint, although its initial scale was small relative to national requirements. Conditions became more difficult in the first half of 2024, when unusually high temperatures contributed to inclusion body hepatitis and directly disrupted poultry production. The response built on the 2023 breeder initiative: domestic broiler hatching-egg output increased to 144 886 eggs in 2024, while vaccination, sourcing eggs from vaccinated flocks and tighter biosecurity helped protect chick survival. Imports nevertheless remained marginal at 0.4 kt in 2024 and fell to 0.2 kt in 2025. A temporary poultry-product import ban introduced in May 2023 remained important sanitary and supply context through 2025, but it primarily affected the imported share rather than expanding total market demand. Poultry meat and offal production in Guyana has increased for the second consecutive year. In 2021, Guyana produced 97 890 tonnes of poultry meat and offal, marking a 14.5% increase from 2020. Over the period from 2018 to 2021, production grew by 16.8%, with a compound annual growth rate of 5.3%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2019 at 77 458 tonnes, which also saw the largest decline of 7.6%.
